Whether you like to dress up or down, knit this casually elegant sweater from a pattern designed for flexibility. The pleats on each side of the waist can be open for a loose, at-ease appearance or buttoned for a more tailored fit. So, look equally sophisticated pairing it with jeans or your favorite designer slacks.
This top-down design starts by shaping the neck with short rows, and then continues in stockinette with almost invisible raglan increases. Since the pattern has no seams to sew, you can easily check the fit—shoulders, chest, sleeves, length—as you knit. Haven’t knitted a top-down sweater before? Don’t worry. This pattern is nicely printed on card stock in a handy pocket size. A list of all abbreviations, glossary of terms, and a crisp schematic with dimensions for proper blocking are included. Throughout the pattern you’ll find indicators of when to refer to your Row Checker.

The kit for this sweater, complete with pattern and yarn, comes in a backpack-style project bag. On the front of the backpack is a zippered pouch with a porthole. You can insert the ball of yarn from which you’re knitting and run the yarn through the porthole, so if you like, you can even knit while walking down the street.
