Martina was inspired by the amazing mosaic tile work that survived the eruption of Mount Vesuvius volcano in 79 BC. I thought many of the graphic patterns I saw in the beautiful mosaic tile works were recent creations, but they originally designed centuries ago. They are excellent patterns for the traditional mosaic knitting technique, which is worked in 2 colors with pairs of alternating rows. Each row is worked in only once color with the alternate color in slip stitches. So, the number of colorwork floats on the wrong side are dramatically reduced. A delightfully simple idea.

This refined mosaic colorwork pattern was envisioned by James in Suéno, a beautiful blend of superwash merino and bamboo. The result is a carefree cowl that feels wonderful in your hands while knitting and so soft against your neck when finished.

Knitting Help
For your convenience, we’ve collected definitions for abbreviations, links to tutorial videos that may make knitting your project easier and more fun, as well as guides to techniques and tailoring.
