If the kitchener isn't your favorite grafting stitch, try this extremely simple alternative. It is commonly known as Russian grafting. And it has many benefits. It is a bit elastic, but sturdier than the kitchener.
This beautiful braid-like design is very flat, unlike the ridge in a three-needle bind off. It knits up nicely whether you are working flat seaming a shoulder or in the round finishing a sock.
