Today, I came upon a story from CNN of a man for whom 2020 was perhaps the best year of his life. After more than 20 years of struggling with drug addiction, Nelson Mendonca picked up a knitting loom hook and it ending up changing his life. He was serving a prison sentence earlier this year when he learned how to knit. Then spent months making toques—or hats—for the homeless before his release from prison last July. Since then he joined the Phoenix Society, an integrated addiction services center, and now leads a group of 10 men who have knitted over 200 toques, which they donate to people in need. Mendonca told CNN, "It sounds like a small thing, but to start a toque and finish it and then give it to someone, it's sparked joy in me that I have never felt before in my life."
