It was René Lacoste, the legendary French tennis player, that first conceived what we know today as the polo shirt. This pattern is inspired by René and designed so every knitter can enjoy the pleasure of hand-crafting a shirt that is as comfortable as the original design from 1929.

FREE UNIQUE ROW CHECKER

This pattern is inspired by the classic pocket T-shirt. Knit from the top down in one piece, the shoulders and neck are shaped using short rows, and the shoulders are joined using the invisible cast-on method. The body is worked in the round. This sport weight linen yarn is wet spun from flax-fiber. Exceptional softness is achieved by fine splitting the long fibers and double boiling the yarn. Machine wash on gentle cycle using a non-bleach, mild soap. Dry in your dryer on a medium setting for 15 minutes, then lay flat to finish. For an even softer result, dry completely in the dryer. Our favorite sporty sweater has been re-imagined in delicious Basis fingering weight. The pairing of two variegated yarns that were meant to be united almost guarantees compliments when you finish this project.

This fingering weight yarn is a very light and very special blend. It is mostly cool, soft cotton, that has been enhanced with a bit of wool to give it resilience. Designer Knitting Pattern
For Addison I experimented with a simple technique that resulted in cables that seem to be spinning. So, I named them pinwheel cables. They are fun to knit and the 6 columns of pinwheels on the chest turn this classic pullover into a very distinctive sweater. It is worked top down from a provisional cast on across the back of the shoulders. The front picks up provisional stitches so both sides can be worked to the underarm. Then the body is worked in the round. Each sleeve starts with picked up stitches that are worked from the top onfthe sleeve cap before the lower sleeve is worked in the round to the cuff. You’ll have a seamless sweater that can be tailored at the waist and finished at a length that suits your own personal style.

Have fun making this sweater for any young athlete or sports fan. The design draws from the traditional athletic look but is styled for a modern feel. You can chose extra fine merino wool or a comfy cotton blend. Both make it very wearable with a shirt or a t-shirt.

The sleeves and body are knitted separately in stockinette, then sewn together to create a classic crewneck. Both the upper body and sleeves are worked flat from the top down—casting on at the neck edge and knitting to the bottom of the armhole. Then the lower body and sleeves are worked in the round from the armhole to the cuff and hem.
