The single banded rib stitch is an excellent way to create a ribbed pattern that is more unique because the ribbing on each side is very different but they are equally beautiful. I have used it when I wanted to showcase a classic stitch pattern on a reversible garment, like a scarf or a wrap.
You’ll find the single banded rib is easy to remember so it can become very meditative. Once you’ve worked a few rows you won’t need to refer to the pattern. Just stitch your way along and enjoy the peaceful activity.
Here’s the surprisingly simple stitch pattern, which is created with a stitch multiple of two plus one and a row repeat that is also two plus one.
Set Up Row: K1, * P1, K1; repeat from * to the end of the row.
Row 1: P1, * sl1 wyif, P1; repeat from * to the end of the row.
Row 2: K1, * P1, K1; repeat from * to the end of the row.
Repeat rows 1 and 2 until you reach the desired length.
(K = Knit, P = Purl, sl wyif = Slip the next stitch purlwise with the yarn in front)
