I’ve resisted yarns with polyester…until now. When I was introduced to Popcycle, HiKoo’s blend of 50% recycled plastic bottles and 50% bamboo, I was amazed. It is exceptionally soft with a wonderful hand, yet cool and extremely strong. It looks beautiful due to a subtle tweed effect that is the result of each fiber taking the color differently when dyed. But the best part is there are 2 plastic bottles in each hank of yarn. A study in 2016 showed that Americans consumed 50 billion plastic bottles and only recycled 23%. Just one million plastic bottles recycled saves 250 barrels of oil and eliminates 180 metric tons of CO2 emissions from being released into the atmosphere. So, knitting with this sturdy, soft, cool, beautiful fingering weight yarn feels good in more ways than one.
