Barbara Walker invented mosaic knitting in the 1960s, but the inspiration for this pattern came from the ruins of ancient Pompeii in 79 BC.

Designer Knitting Pattern
Buy this designer knitting pattern and knit the Corrina Cowl as James envisioned it. Corrina was inspired by the amazing mosaic tile work that survived the eruption of Mount Vesuvius volcano in 79 BC. While mosaic knitting is typically done with alternating double rows of two colors, Jim’s design is created with single rows of color in the round. So, floats on the wrong side and jogs on the right side are virtually eliminated.

Yarn
SUEÑ0 -  80% Superwash Merino, 20% Bamboo – 255 yards/233 meters per 100 grams This refined mosaic colorwork pattern was created by James in Suéno, a beautiful blend of superwash merino and bamboo.  Suéno is an extremely soft, blend with exceptional elasticity and bounce, plus ideal stitch definition. The result is a carefree cowl that feels wonderful in your hands while knitting and so soft against your neck when finished.

or SANTOLINA – 70% organically grown cotton, 20% rayon from bamboo and 10% hemp.

James has re-envisioned the Corrina cowl in Purl Soho’s beautiful Santolina. Durable supersoft cotton is blended with hemp to add a slightly rustic texture, and silky bamboo for a lustrous finish. It is hypoallergenic with an airy spin that creates a lovely drape. Each fiber takes the dye in its own distinctive style to produce a gentle heathered result. And surprise, Santolina can be machine washed and dried.
